Going to an Indian restuarant, what should I order?!
If someone could please help me out because I don't want to seem stupid when I'm there.
Thanks x

I would suggest chicken tikka kebabs (barbecued chunks of chicken with only a little spice), raita (yogurt and cucumber sauce to help alleviate spiciness), plain basmati rice. Naan bread is great too. Sag (creamed spinach) is good and not very spicy. When I first had curry I thought it was really spicy but now I love it and cook it at home too.
indian food is spicy it really depends on if your indian start with an appetizer like samosa, papdi chat, alo tikki some thing like dat, main dish your choices would b rice, roti(regular flatbread) naan(a softer & puffier type of flatbread),chicken tikka, daal , butter chicken(highly recommended)Dessert would b rass malai(highly recommended) and lots more ppl like lassi i dont though
me
Im from NY and i Love Indian food but i dont like it spicy either, restaurants dont serve spicy unless you ask them to.
i usually order
- butter chicken, comes with flat bread or rice
-vegetarian "Thali"( which is a large plate with little bowls of different Indian dishes, kind of like a tasting menu)
-Dosa (stuffed crepe) cant go wrong w/these
Indian food is SPICY! No matter what you order, get a mango drink. Any Indian restaurant should have it on the menu. Mango is excellent at neutralizing spiciness. Butter chicken shouldn't be too spicy in my experience.
Butter Chicken, basmati and roti... are good! Butter chicken isn't too spicy.
a double bacon cheeseburger off the canadian menu
onion bhaji
chicken tikka (not spicy at all)
naan bread
Im Indian so I can help. For starters, u cam order a rice platter, usually it's flavored, not spicy, but do watt out if they put in whole green chilies to flavor the rice. If that's the case, just take them out and put them to the side. Also sometimes the restaurants may use cardamom pods in the rice, just take them out too. Then u can order chicken tikka, which is usually boneless chicken pieces cubes and cooked in a creamy red/orange curry sauce. You can either eat this over the rice, with some naan (Indian flat bread) or all three together. They have some appetizers as well called "samosas" which is potato and peas stuffed inside dough and then they are fried. You should ask how spicy they are, sometimes they are mild, sometimes not. They can be served with curried chick peas (chole or channey) ask about the spice level of these too. Then for dessert, I'm guessing they would have mango ice-cream, or rasmalai (soft sponge cake type thing soaked in sweet milk). Overall before you order, u can ask them to adjust the spiciness. Also if someone don't want the chicken, they can order "paneer" which is curdled cheese in a curry sauce, the pieces are cube shaped, tastes great! This can be eaten with the rice and naan as well. I hope u enjoy the birthday celebrations, and if you need any other help, just ask. :) hope this helped.
I'm Indian :)
You sound really dull when it comes to trying new things..sorry but you do.
I am so diversified when it comes to food.
I've eaten food from India to New Zealand, Nepal to France.
anyway..it all depends on if its actually Indian or not, are you sure its Indian or is it Korean/thai etc?
If you don't like spicy then scratch off half of the menu, I recommend Butter Chicken, It's always 100% chicken breast and its got a beautiful creamy taste with no spice what-so-ever.
Perfect for someone with the calm tastebuds you have.
I would also recommend a piece of naan bread as a side, and maybe some papadums, but those are your choice.
if your looking for a second dish I suggest korma but make sure to tell them you want it mild.
and I too am very fussy, just a different type of fussy from you!
I hope you have a great time at your friends birthday! :D
