Is gelatin halal or hiraam?!

Question: Is gelatin halal or hiraam?
Ive been seeking a definative answer to this question but all i have come across are statements that support both. Common sense tells me that gelatin cant both be halal and hiraam so if someone can give me an answer that is definative (with proof and/or supporting suorces) id really appreciate it.

Gelatin is made with beef bones/horns/hooves/etc. and thus you'd need to find a Kosher version of gelatin...Google up "Kosher foods" and you'll find several websites selling this kind of stuff, but unflavored gelatins for cooking or Jello equivalents that are guaranteed Kosher. There are even Kosher marshmallows, which we got for some Orthodox nieces & nephews for a treat. Kosher and Halal are basically identical as to principle, so don't be shy and overly ethnic - clean is clean whether it's from one culture or another. I don't think modern marketing has caught up with the Muslim potential shoppers as yet, so go with the Kosher and burn the packaging if you get nervous about that six-pointed star.

gelatin made from agar agar(seaweed) is okey dokey. Other gelatins are animal based.
