Cali roll, asparagus roll, shrimp(NOT SWEET shrimp), crab... if you want raw fish stick to something like tuna, yellowtail (hamachi), snapper, halabuit. Stay away from Mackeral(fishy), sweet shrimp (those are raw, consistency of raw shrimp is aquired taste), uni sea urchin (for now, its good tho).

"Spicy" fish (Spicy Tuna/scallop/etc) are usually raw, chopped mixed with mayo and some hot sauce, I really like them, but if you dont like hot then not for you. They are mild in fishy flavor so easy to eat.

Octopus and conch are mild but usually pretty chewy.

If you like eggs and something a little sweet try an egg (not quail egg those are raw) sushi its like a sweet omlet on rice.

Yellowtail is my absolute favorte raw fish. I always order them nigiri style (not rolled, just rice with raw fish) might be a little much to start with but its my fav.

Take a friend that eats sushi, it will be easier to navigate the menu. Or you can sit at the sushi bar and tell the chef you are new to sushi.

Try the futo-maki, which is an all-vegetable roll with some cooked egg in it. California rolls are always good, as are the dragon rolls (basically california rolls with a temura-fried shrimp inside). I recommend the unagi, which is eel. It sounds gross, but is delicious, and is fully cooked, served warm with a yummy-sweet teriyaki-style glaze on it. Ask your sushi chef for recommendations; every sushi bar I have ever been to has a decent selection of non-raw rolls for sushi novices. If you don't see anything like that on the menu, the sushi chefs are usually happy to concoct something you like on the spot (unless you go to a really cheap bargain-basement sushi place).
I do encourage you to try at least one raw fish dish while you;re there, just to expand your horizons. You can try salmon or tuna, they are pretty safe bets for novices. You can try them nigiri-style (just a slice laid on top of a knob of rice), or roll-style.

I'll second the california roll suggestion (it's cooked crab meat/imitation crab meat). A (raw) tuna roll is another fairly safe bet. Maybe stay away from the fish roe if it's your first sushi experience. Also, stick to rolls for now, rather than sashimi, which is just slabs of raw fish.

Calfornia Rolls are for the starter sushi eaters and they are really good too!
