What should you eat in Argentina?!

Question: What should you eat in Argentina?
What should you eat if you go there and what should you stay away from? Which foods are the healthiest? thanks.

Answers:

The most defining thing about Argentine cuisine is that it is very high-protein-- they eat a TON of beef. It's actually the highest per-capita consumption in the world, I read that the average Argentine adult eats 12.6 oz of beef per day. So various steaks, stuffed flank steak (matambre), blood sausages, tripe, sweetbreats are very common. They are generally grilled (carne asada) and served with chimichurri sauce. This condiment is made of olive oil, parsley, lots of raw garlic, and a few spices. It is very good!

Besides the meat, other popular foods include pastas/Italian dishes, pizzas (which are often topped with fainá, a chickpea dough), cheeses eggplants, salads, tomatoes, summer squashes, polenta, and dulce de leche like another poster mentioned. Along the coastline, seafood is also popular.

My favorite Argentine food is empanadas, they are great! The most common fillings (according to my dad-- he was born/raised in Argentina but I've never been there) are a meat/spices and a potato/cheese variety. They are often deep fried, but can be healthier when baked.

Well you can eat whatever you want, usually they eat lots of meat..but more important than what to eat is where to eat so check this nice list of restaurants (not all are expensive). Mae
