What do Italians serve when having guests?!

Question: What do Italians serve when having guests?
When Italians are having dinner partys or just having friends over what do they serve for the meal when everyone is sitting down to eat and what kind of snacks do they have out when it's not neccesarily meal time people are just talking around the cofee table.

Answers:

LOTS of food.

For appetizers and nibbles before dinner, they serve an assortment things called antipasti, consisting of dried salami or sausage; cheese (like fresh mozzarella with basil, Reggiano Parmesan, etc.); all sorts of roasted vegetables, including peppers, tomatoes, garlic, or zucchini/sqaush; black or green olives; and my personal favorite -- bruschetta, which are small pieces of toast with any combination of the above! And these are just the cold appetizers!

As for the main course, pasta dishes are of course very popular. Lasagna, linguine with sauce, just to name a couple. The sauce is very important. Meat sauces are typically made with ground veal, beef, AND pork, and with spices of course, such as rosemary, oregano, and thyme. There's another nice pasta dish called Carbonara, with requires you to fold the pasta, usually linguine into egg yolks, bacon, and cream. Also popular are dishes that are interchangeable with veal and chicken, called scallopine (meaning the meat is pounded very flat to tenderize it). There are many others too, these are just a few, all very delicious! And of course, don't forget the wine!!
