What is the name of this?!
My dad used to make lime preserved in salt. However, I believe that there is a name for this but I'm unable to find it. I do think it's an Asian method of preserving lime, more specifically Chinese or one of it's dialects. I'll describe the preserved lime:
-It has been preserved for more than 6 months under the sun. After that we would keep it indoors to continue preserving it.
-It is black in colour and said to help with sore throat, and (stomach upset?)
-Usually we would make it into a drink with about 2-3 limes and hot water.
I do hope someone is able to tell me what this is.

Answers:
It's Chinese, more specifically Cantonese household cure of sore throat. The actual fruit used should be kumquat instead of lime, the preserve is called "salty kumquat" or 咸 金 橘.
I would call it cr@p.
