Can I defrost a chicken in water? Is it safe?!

Question:

Can I defrost a chicken in water? Is it safe?

Answers:
Yes you should be OK to do that - put it in cold water and it will defrost quicker - you can also do it with other frozen meat.

I've done it plenty of times and I'm still here...so I hope so.

Yes

It's actually the safest way to defrost it. Once it's thawed, use it or put it in the fridge.

It's safe, you might loose the juices though if you don't put it in a ziploc bag though.

Yes it is if you cook it right after defrosting and if you dont leave it in water for more than 3 hours.

Ive been doing it for the last 20 years or more. We also have a chest freezer so all our meat goes in there to be consumed at a later date. It hasn't ever made me ill as yet!.

Yes ou can I do it all the time as long as ites in cold water, and you cook it like you are supposed to.

You can run it under room temp water or cool water, but never hot or warm water. And only do this for an hour tops! Then just place in your fridge lowest level you can and wait for it to defrost there.

It is fine use luke warm to cool water to do the defrost.

Yes and yes. It's only safe if you completely have it submerged in cool water, and change the water every half hour.

Thawing a chicken in cold water is the safe way to defrost it other than thawing in the fridge. Just be sure you keep the water cold, preferably running until it is thawed out and cook right away.

Good Luck!!!

Yes unwrap the chicken & put it in a bowel of cold water.
It should defrost fine. I've done it plently of time to chicken & seafood & i'm still here!!

Yes. I would use a ziploc or wrap it in foil. I do it all the time. I think that it is better than the microwave because in water it does not dry it out and does not partly cook it

chicken can be a dangerous meat if not taken care when cooking cuss it can cause salmonella and other things if i were you i would stick to what you know

I almost always do! AND feed it to my babies! They've never had food poisoning, and neither have I from that.(I got it from bad pizza once, but that's it!)

Sure, use hot water and place your chicken in a zip locked bag, place the bag in hot water... The water will turn cold soon because of the cold chicken.... Let it sit for a while, then change the water out with new hot water.

I have done this many times and it works just fine..

Yes its ok do it iin cold water hot water will start cooking it.

i hope so, it's what I do

no no no it only defrosts the outside of the bird not the centre
use the microwave or the old fashioned way of taking it out of the freezer on time!

it is fine to defrost it in water ,as long it is covered in cold water.or you can defrost in a microwave if it going straight in the oven.

yea it's safe, but it's safer to defrost it in the fridge over night. but defrosting it in water isnt really bad because it's going to be cooked.

Yes, cold water, not hot.

no its best to defrost as normal in room temperature

yes

NO, NO, NO!
Using this method you cannot guarantee that the chicken is properly defrosted and that is a sure fire way for the salmonella virus to spread.

as long as it cold water and you keep changing the water make sure it is defrosted correctly

yes but only in cold water

its perfectly safe, but only using cold water for best result keep tap running!!!

Not sure.

As long as you dont live in Chernobyl
