This is wayyyyyy too broad of an assumption. Organic does not equal vegetarian. Organic does NOT equal healthy.

Read the label of the cheese you are eating. Call or e-mail the company. But you don't want to ask "Does it have rennet?" you want to ask "What is the source of your rennet?" Because rennet can be from an animal source, vegetable source, or microbial source, you need to be specific as most cheese contains "rennet".

As far as animal free rennet, I know that locally, we have Horizon and Tillamook that are both veggie friendly. Just start reading labels.

Yes, some do! Saw some non veggie mozarella and brie the other day. Most are ok

Rennet can be from animal or microbial sources. Each producer is different so you need to find out for each one. Check the link below for some veg. safe cheeses.

There are many cheeses that dont contain animal rennet. I know that Horizon brand and some cabot cheeses do not. Google vegetarian cheese for a list. I highly doubt that the usual supermarket brands are vegetarian friendly.

I think you might be mixing up terms.

You can get Animal and vegetable rennet. So organic cheese could have either in it.

If you want veggie cheese, you need to check the label, ingredients or write to the producer.

In the US and Canada, about 95% of cheese is non-veggie, in the UK its about 60% non-veggie

I get so tired of this nonsense.
OK
Rennet Is an Enzyme......
The source of the enzyme has little to do with a CHEESE that you loved and animal,,,, after the manufacture process.. A dry powder. (liquid) ??
"Crimeminy" your eating the milk,,, another part of the beast.
and you never eat jello RIGHT.
Your view is to waste the food source WE depend on..
Just do your thing ,,we don't care if you wish to be foolish in our eyes.

rennet
A substance containing rennin, an enzyme having the property of clotting, or curdling, milk. It is used in the making of cheese and junket. Rennet is obtained from the stomachs of young mammals living on milk, especially from the inner lining of the fourth, or true, stomach (abomasum) of milk-fed calves. The preparation of rennet was formerly a part of the domestic function of making cheese; the inner membrane was kept in salt, dried, and, when rennet was needed, soaked in water. Now extract of rennet is made and sold commercially. It is usually prepared by soaking the tissues in warm, slightly salted water and straining and preserving the resulting liquid. Heat interferes with the action of rennet.

Often times rennet is still used. It's usually labeled though. Read deep into the packaging and you can find out. If you buy from a local creamery that doesn't label like that, then they are usually easy to locate on the web and usually very friendly to call or email.

You can buy cheese that has vegetarian rennet. Cabot is an excellent brand, and they have a good variety. Most whole foods stores also carry cheese made with vegetarian rennet. I make homemade cheese with it.

Most of them don't. I know the cheeses in Annie's products and Amy's products are rennet free. Horizon organic cheeses are rennet free and readily available. Most soft cheeses like cream cheese and cottage cheese are rennet free too. It will usually say "non-animal" after enzymes on the ingredients list, but not always so if you're curious about a particular brand, just locate their website and it will usually tell.

Some do, but it will say on the label very LOUD if it does not have rennet.

I dont eat cheese, and to be honest..ya some1 will ***** at me for this, but you should give up cheese altogether!!! Im not sure why rennet is any more a frightful thought to consume as the dairy itself..that said ..dont mind old footloose. he is in fact an older man stuck in his ways, and hasnt quite got a hold of the concept one does make a difference...what do you get one you add 1 +1+1+1+1+1+1+1+1+ etc etc etc...? Ya it adds up buddy. I really do hope you have gotten a hold of the supply and demand concept as well. Imagine, (if you could imagine the world could possibly be any worse!), if everyone thought as oldfootloose did and simply never did anything or stood up for anything, because they had the mindset "one doesnt make a difference"..this is really where all this mans ideas come from and it really makes me sad to know he is far from the only apathetic person in this sad little world of ours.
