Where did root beer get it's name?!

Question:

Where did root beer get it's name?

Answers:
Root beer had at one time (before the food police got involved to protect you from yourself) flavoring from the root of Sassafras.

Because the original recipie used roots, berries, and other herbs.

There are two versions of Root Beer. Non-alcoholic and alcoholic. The name comes from the alcoholic side, (it used to be more common), and refers to its cousin; Beer.

The alcoholic version is made from a combination of vanilla, cherry tree bark, licorice root, sarsaparilla root, artificial sassafras root bark flavoring, nutmeg, anise, and molasses among other ingredients.

Since the beer was made with a lot of "root" or tree ingredients, the name "Root Beer" stuck.

Hope this helps.

Made from root.
Where did Mr. Brown get his name, and Mr. White?????

originally, root beer used to be roots, with other stuff added to make a non-alcoholic beverage for people. now they make it almost the same, except with no roots. that's where the name came from.

god. everyone is liar. root beer doesnt come from roots. when people make beer, and the alcohol doesnt come out right you get root beer. like, bad beer sorta

Actually, Charles Hires (of Hires Root Beer) originally made a brew out of 16 different roots and berries and he called it Root Tea. He owned a pharmacy store and the taste was sometimes described as "medicinal." To market the drink to local miners, he changed the name to Root Beer. This turned out to be a smart move.
