What are the risks of getting e-coli in spinach?

I have been eating a lot of salads with spinach in them and I was wondering what the risks are of getting sick with e-coli? I buy the spinach from the grocery store in the packages.

From everything I had followed about this story, the majority of the contaminated spinach had come from California.

I think that domestically, the FDA does a pretty good job of making sure that the domestically grown food supply is safe. The problem is that food producers want to buy additives and preservatives from countries (mainly China) who don't answer to the FDA. China lost so much face over their contaminated toothpastes, tea leaves, and dog food that they sentenced the head of the Chinese FDA to death. As far as spinach, I don't think you should worry, but always wash your veggies!

Very, very low. That was a pretty isolated incident. As to how it came to be, if you eat spinach, you don't wanna know. Suffice it to say: always wash your hands. Always.
