Green Beans with New Potatoes
Recipe courtesy Paula Deen

Ingredients
3 pounds fresh green beans
1/4 pound salt pork, sliced
1/4 cup bacon grease
2 cups chicken broth, plus more if needed
2 to 3 teaspoons House Seasoning (*recipe follows )
12 small red potatoes
1 onion, cut into slivers
1/2 stick unsalted butter, sliced
Ground black pepper

Instructions

Remove the ends from the beans. Snap the beans in 2
pieces, place into a colander, wash, and set aside to drain.

Meanwhile, in a large cast iron Dutch oven, lightly brown the salt pork in the
bacon grease over medium heat, turning often, for approximately 10 minutes. Toss
the green beans into the pot, stirring them with a wooden spoon to coat well with
the pork fat. Add the broth and House Seasoning. Cook over medium-low heat,
covered tightly, for approximately 30 minutes, or until the beans are half done.
While the beans are cooking, peel a center strip from each new potato with a
potato peeler. At the end of 30 minutes, add the potatoes and onion to the beans;
add 1/4 cup more broth, if needed. Cook, covered tightly, until the potatoes are
tender, approximately 25 to 30 minutes, periodically checking the pot to make sure
a small amount of liquid remains. When the potatoes are tender, tilt the lid
slightly, off to the side of the pot, and continue to cook until the green beans
are wilted, approximately 15 minutes. While cooking, add the butter and season
with pepper.

* House Seasoning:
1 cup salt
1/4 cup black pepper
1/4 cup garlic powder

Mix ingredients together and store in an airtight container for up to 6
months.

Depends - most of the time you can just put them in the microwave, if they are frozen, you can cook them in a skillet. Potatoes are generally not an ingredient necessary to cooking green beans!

NOTE: If you want, you can put boiled potato small cubes on salads.

I put fresh green beans in a pressure cooker along with chopped up potatoes and cook them for about 10 minutes.

If you want to put them in a slow cooker you could put them in low and let them cook all day long so that they were ready when you get home.

If the green beans are canned put them in a pot or microwave until heated then add seasonings. If the green beans are frozen add a little water to a microwave safe bowl cover with a plate with and cook until heated then add seasonings. Or you can try this recipe with green beans, potatoes, and sausage. This is with fresh green beans and you can cook it at the same time.

Diced Bell Pepper ( I used Red cuz it's sweet and pretty)
1 or 2 (I used one) onion diced
4 or five Garlic cloves or however much you prefer
one link/1 pound of sausage sliced ( I used half pecan smoked beef and half venison)
1 package of sliced mushrooms
Red or New Potatoes
Fresh Green Beans (Home grown is best of course!)
Seasonings of your choice ( I used sea salt, seasoned salt, and hamburger seasoning)
Little bit of chicken broth or water (chicken broth is better) Just a little though

In a medium or larged sized pot add Bell Pepper, onion, garlic, mushrooms, and sausage. I stirred in a little butter and the seasonings. Saute on med heat for a while till the veggies get soft and the mushrooms do their thing. Quarter the potatoes. Mix the green beans and Potatoes, a little butter and season. Mix it real well and let it sort of sit while the other stuff is sauteing. Add a little chicken broth or water then add the potatoes and green beans and cook on medium heat covered and stir occasionally. Of course it's ready when the potatoes are soft. MMMMMMMMMMMM so tasty and delicious. It's a comfort food but it's not heavy.

P.S. Use a medium to large pot and cover while cooking. When using fresh green beans, remember to snip the ends.

Hmmm, "Taters" should be thrown in first LOL and cooked 2/3's of the way (if boiling) then toss in the green beans..... or you could just check out all them yummy recipes the others left behind *^_^*

POTATOES AND GREEN BEANS

This is a super easy and very tasty side dish ...a favorite in my house.
4 medium potatoes, peeled and cubed
1 can green beans, undrained
1-2 teaspoons bacon drippings
1/2 to 1 teaspoon garlic powder
salt and pepper, to taste

Put bacon drippings and potatoes in a medium sauce pan. Pour green beans over potatoes and sprinkle garlic powder on top.
Cover and cook over medium low for about 15 minutes (depending on the size of the potato cubes).

Stir and enjoy!

Wash and snap your beans. I like to season my beans with a piece of salt pork or a couple of spoon of bacon grease for flavor. If this is not available use some margerine. Put season in botton of pan and then put Beans in pan and add water till you can see it in the beans. shake of salt and pepper and some minced onion-bring to boil and reduce heat. Cover and cook about 30 minutes, until beans loose bright green color and add potatoes. If at any time they begin to look too dry add a little water. Cook until potatoes are done and beans are tender. I

If I was cooking fresh green beans I would just put them in a saucepan and a cup of water and bring it to a boil and simmer them for 15 minutes or till they were just fork tender. Stir a few times to make sure they all get some heat.
As for the potatoes, I never heard of cooking potatoes with green beans.
