Hi i bought a tin of Ghee (or plough butter as tesco call it) to make indian curry with. sadly they only sell them in huge tins and it doesnt say anywhere on it whether you have to store it in the fridge or how long it lasts once opened. to be safe i have put it in the fridge and im guessing it prolly lasts a month or 2?? dont make that many currys and would rather not poison my family!!

It lasts for months in the refrigerator.....especially if salted.
You can leave it out, but you won't.

If you need some in the future, just take a stick (1/4 pound US) of unsalted butter and melt at low temperature until it foams and becomes clear on top, then strain. Typically you only need several tablespoons for most recipes except for desserts.

Ghee (Hindi ??, Urdu ???, Punjabi ??, Kashmiri ?????/???? - from Sanskrit gh?t? ??? "sprinkled"; also known in Arabic as ???, samn, meaning "ghee" or "fat") is a class of clarified butter that originates in the Indian subcontinent, and continues to be important in Indian cuisine as well as Egyptian cuisine. Ghee is made by simmering unsalted butter in a large pot until all water has boiled off and protein has settled to the bottom. The clarified butter is then spooned off to avoid disturbing the milk solids on the bottom of the pan. Unlike butter, ghee can be stored for extended periods without refrigeration, provided it is kept in an airtight container to prevent oxidation and remains moisture-free.[1]

Ages - just keep it in th fridge

Ghee is so pure it will last forever - even without refrigeration!
(Though I do keep mine in the fridge)

you can keep it for months once open as long as it is in the fridge, it is a bit like butter in that you will notice a change in colour and smell if it is going off....enjoy

if you refrigerate it it will last for about 2 months...take out what you need the day before to soften it

Ghee is amazing.

You can deep fry in it.

You can put it on toast, on popcorn, steamed veggies, in rice.

Fry eggs in it, make quesadilla with it.

Put in warm milk (1/2 teaspoon) with sweetener and cardamom to produce restful sleep. Have it before bed.

You can rub a little on the bottom of your feet to help you sleep better. Especially if you are restless. Works on children and babies too.

Fry cubed panir in it and add to alfredo.

It is too overpowering if you bake with it like in cookies or cake unless it is ladu - made with garbanzo bean flour, sugar, and ghee.

It will keep well, if it is made correctly, in the cupboard. Otherwise, to be safe, keep in fridge. It will keep for months.

Explore and enjoy.
