What can a vegetarian do about constipation?!

Question:

What can a vegetarian do about constipation?

Is there something lacking in her diet that would help relieve the constipation

Answers:
It's very rare that a vegetarian would get constipated - we eat lots of veggies, grains, beans, etc. - natural fiber for regularity. Take a look at your diet. Maybe you're continuing to eat junk food, just omitting the meat - that is just as unhealthy as not being a vegetarian.

Increase water intake, look at the sources of fiber and increase intake of them, and include things like prune juice in the diet. If you are getting lots of fiber and fruits and veggies, but are still constipated, see your healthcare provider, there may be something else going on.

eat meat. its a natural part of life

Eat some prunes.

A vegetarian should be getting enough fiber to keep regular.
Water may be needed to bulk up the fiber.
Water is very necessary.

It's a little hard to say without knowing more about your diet, but there's probably nothing lacking. The most important dietary element to ensure regularity is fiber, and a vegetarian should be getting plenty of that. It could be that you're getting TOO much of something. Perhaps too much fiber, or too much cheese, if you eat cheese. This could also be caused by a food allergy, perhaps to dairy products or wheat. Try eating more fruit and drinking more fuit juice, and experiment with eliminating things from your diet for a week or two to see if you do better. Good luck!

Are you a new vegetarian? It is always rough at first, but there is a solution. You are missing fiber from your diet. Look at the ingredient labels and/or take Benecol pills or another source of fiber.

Um, more fiber? I feel silly saying that to a vegetarian. And drink more water.

Eat Red Meat and it will clear you right out.

I don't know .. try taking some Shitz-Mor . . . Another "vegetative" question about their excrement! What is it with these "vegetatives" and their sh*t. For crissakes eat like people and not cows and you won't have problems.

cranberry bran muffins should do the trick

vegetarians shouldnt have that problem, with all the soy and veggies and fruit and fiber, that is the least of our problems....gas is a big one

Drink more water and eat more fiber. A nice tall glass of hot water, as hot as you'd drink coffee, will help get things moving too.

Try eating only whole grains (wheat bread, brown rice, etc, not white bread, white rice pretzels and chips). Drink more water. Eat more fruits (especially grapes, pinapples, apples).
