Marinading?!
Marinading?
I want to cook chicken either tomorrow night or the next night, would it be okay if I marinaded it tonight even if it didn't get cooked until thursday? or should I wait until tomorrow night to marinade it? Can you marinade something too long? thanks a bunch!
Answers:
Yes definately can marinade it too long! It totally depends on the marinade. For example, if you left chicken in a teriyaki marinade for more than about 12 hours it would be so salty it would be vile, and you wouldn't have the overall equal blend of flavors that make it yummy.
It also depends on what type of chicken you are using. Boneless, skinless breasts will absorb far more quickly than say bone on, skin on breast or other similar parts.
If you need to save time you might want to make the marinade ahead, store in a zip lock bag in the fridge, and add the chicken. 12-24 hours is a good rule of thumb for how long, depending on all I discussed above. And for future referrence, pork takes longer to marinade than chicken, and steak usually can take a little less time.
i think one night is best. the chicken could go bad if not frozen or cooked.
i dont think you can marinade something too long. my dad has marinaded chicken over night. but thats the longest that i know of.
It's fine if you do it tonight, but don't cook it any later than Thursday.
You can start marinade it now. It is in fact better to marinade it sooner than later. The marinade and the chicken should be kept in the refreigerator, with a plastic wrap over it. It will actually keep better, ,and the chicken will be more flavorful.
Usually, there is some vinegar in the marinade, and that will help to tenderize the meat.
Marinating in Italian dressing for at least 24 hours will give you tender, juicy, and flavorful chicken. Defrost your chicken tonight and stick it in the marinade tomorrow. By Thursday night you'll have great chicken!
I wouldn't marinate chicken breast for two days more for the potential for bacteria than anything else.
You can marinate too long if you use Accent which breaks down meat fibers. To be safe, just mix the marinade and refrigerate and then add the chicken tomorrow night.
You can never marinade something for too long. I marinade my chiken for fajitas two nights ahead with Yoshida's Marinade Sauce.
I think I may be able to help you with this question, since I work in the profession... You can marinade the chicken breast for longer periods of time that is ok. As long as you remain the temperature constant at 40 degrees or below without freezing. More so if you package seal it, keeping the air out But the quality of the chicken may affected, depending on the marinade. If you use any items that contains acidity, such as lemon juice. Or even vinegar, even though it is a base. The texture of the chicken will change because of the reaction it will have to the meat. The acid will begin to cook the chicken and the base will begin to soften the meat. But leaving an items as chicken to marinade for long periods doesn't really make a difference. Five hours is more than enough time....
