Is 'oat meal' and 'oats'are they the same thing?

I went o the shop to get oatmeal and they said oats and oatmeal are the same thing. Are they just saying it to sell their products or are they both the same.

And is there a another name for 'oatmeal' in australia.

Oatmeal is when you add water and cook it. Oats are just oats in the raw form.
