There are great non-fast food burgers all over the country. My favorite is made by Char-Hut based in South Florida.

Their bugers are charbroiled and their HOT SAUCE is the best! Fries are great also.

In Fort Smith, Arkansas....it's definitely Ed Walker's drive-in...they have homemade fries and they are huge...made from a baking potato size....and a huge, juicy homemade hamburger patty, not the pre-frozen things....if you're ever near, that's the place to go.

Five Guys has taken over the east coast and for good reason- juicy burgers on soft frech buns, and crisp, salty fries served in brown bags- nothing more"USA' than that!!

the best hamburger i ever had was at united sports az,our local dirt race track and a 14 year old boy made it so i had 2

Here in Nashville FAT MO'S that should tell you something

The Rainbow Club in Henderson NV.
Huge beef patty with great tasting bun, Served with huge portion of Fries. All for $6.49.
Sound like too much for a measly burger?
Every week in the newspaper is a 2-for-1 coupon.
Great meal, great deal.

Fuddruckers!!

My house!!

But since that isn't an option.......I'll have to agree with the others that independant (ie: non chain places) usually have better burgers.

I used to live in LA and I still remember getting a burger at Tommy's. I'd love to go back just to see if they're as good as I remember them............
