Rock Candy for Kids
2 cups granulated sugar
Heavy cord
1 cup water
Put one cup of water into a small saucepan, pour 2 cups of granulated sugar into the water, heat the water and sugar on the stove over a medium heat, continue stirring until the sugar melts, keep adding sugar and stirring until it melts, stop adding sugar when you see that it will no longer dissolve in the water (that is until you see sugar lying on the bottom of the saucepan). Remove the pot from the stove, let the liquid cool until it is just warm.
Pour the liquid into a clean glass jar.
Tie one end of a piece of heavy cord around the middle of a pencil.
Place the pencil over the top of the glass jar letting the cord fall into the liquid.
Crystals will begin to form in a few hours The next day, remove the cord from the jar, pour the sugar liquid back into the saucepan, reheat and cool it just as you did before. Pour the liquid back into the jar and reinsert the cord with the crystals into it. More crystals will form.
If you repeat this procedure every day the crystal candy will grow bigger and bigger.
When it has reached a size that pleases you, snip off any excess string and enjoy.

My son really loves these dishes when I make them. Sometimes he likes to help me out.

try:

merinating chicken breasts in italian dressing, or bbq sause, then grill, yummm yumm for kids

also i would try salads, but instead of that stuff they dont like, i would take lettuce, grapes, manderain orange slices, and apple chunks, it is sooo good!

also try maybe making kabobs, with chicken or any other meat, veggies, and maybe shrimp, and grilling it.

also kids love eating celery logs with peanut buter and raisins and chocolate chips, as long as they can make them

kids ussually eat what they make so have them help prepare dinner.

hope i helped!

why dont you get some english muffins, spread it with cream cheese and decorate it with all kinds of fruit?

My kids love pretty much anything, just as long as it has a lot of flavor. My fave thing to make for them is spaghetti and meatballs and they love Mexican food. Hummus on crackers is a great snack. And they love English muffin pizza.

Everything I am sharing is either a snack or dessert.

butterflies:

vanilla wafers
peanut butter
raisins
pretzels with three sections

spread the peanut butter on the vanilla wafer. Put a pretzel with the two humps sticking off the peanut butter and another pretzel opposite so it looks like wings of a butterfly. Put two raisins for eyes. Let the kids make it and eat it.

flowers:

vanilla wafers
peanut butter
frosted flakes
straight pretzels

Peanut butter on Vanilla wafer. Straight pretzel for a stem. Frosted flakes for pedals.

cinnamon raisin apples:
apples
sugar
cinnamon
raisins

Preheat oven to 350. mix sugar and cinnamon in a bowl. Core, slice to desired size, peel apples and place in bowl with cinnamon mix. Add raisins to the mix and stir until apples and raisins are thoroughly covered. bake for about 30 minutes or so. serve warm with cool whip, ice cream or cream cheese.

Episode: Bring Your Kids to Work Day

Pizza stone
Store-bought Pizza dough
Tomato sauce
Mozzarella
Romano
Pepperoni, sliced
Roasted red peppers, cut in strips
Pineapple chunks
Canadian bacon
Flour
Olive oil

Preheat oven to 550 degrees. Place pizza stone inside about 20 minutes before baking the pizzas off.
Shape the pizza in individual pies. Use flour to keep the dough from sticking to your work surface. Top each pie with a drizzle of olive oil, the tomato sauce, mozzarella and Romano. Give each child their own and let them top it as they like. For example you can go traditional Italian and top it with pepperoni and onion. Or make the pizza "Hawaiian" by adding the Canadian bacon and pineapple. Place the topped pizzas on the pizza stone and cook until the crust is golden brown and the cheese is all melty.

Kids Favorite MeatloafSUBMITTED BY: Mike B.

"Bored of 'plain old meatloaf'? We tried a recipe with a twist. All you need is some smaller pans in the shapes of characters, or whatever. The kids love the shapes and rave about the taste!!! Mine like to use Winnie the Pooh. Be creative and have fun
INGREDIENTS
1/2 cup ketchup
2 tablespoons brown sugar
1 teaspoon prepared mustard
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
1 teaspoon salt
1 1/2 teaspoons onion powder
1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
1 egg
1 tablespoon milk
1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
1 1/2 cups crispy wheat cereal squares
1 1/2 pounds ground beef
DIRECTIONS
In a large bowl, combine the ketchup, brown sugar and mustard and mix well. Remove 4 tablespoons of this mixture and reserve for later for the top of the loaves. To the mixture in the bowl, add the Worcestershire sauce, salt, onion, garlic, egg, milk and ground black pepper and mix together well.
Stir in the wheat cereal squares and let stand for 5 minutes. Then break up the cereal squares and add the ground beef, mixing well. Shape the mixture into the mini loaf pans you've decided to use.
Bake at 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) for 65 minutes. Brush on reserved ketchup mixture and bake for 15 more minutes

i would try to make it sound as gross as possible (for some reason kids like that) give them spaghetti and tell them its blood and guts (it may be gory but kids will eat it)

The first poster is right, kids will eat what they make. If you want something simple have some bread rolls or regular bread and lay out some ingredients to make sandwiches and let your kids chose what they want on them. Have them help you bake cookies or pancakes/waffles or for something healthier a stir-fry or mini-pizzas. Let them help out, kids love to cook. Have fun!

How abut pizza bagles. Take a bag of bagles, toast the halves, put tomato sauce on it thats mixed with italian spices, then onions, green peppers, ham or pepperoni, all diced, mozarella (shredded), bake for 20 minutes on 375 F. And the best pasrt is, the kids can help and put the toppings on the bagles. Its fast, easy, cheap and fun.

well im still kind of a kid but i cook my own food so i like homemade things like homemade biscutts and gravy yyyyyuuuuuuuuummmmmm

I find that if you don't coddle and give the kids too much of a choice they will eat what you eat. Of course children have less developed tastes and tendencies to dislike textures of certain foods. Oh well - too bad. My mother was a wonderful and learned chef. I am so happy as a child that she didn't make a side of macaroni and cheese with a hot dog hacked up in it when she prepared her wonderful pasta dishes that were full of exotic flavors. Sure we would ***** at times but in the end our tastes were much more developed than the neighbor kids whose parents would serve their children Jeno's Pizza Rolls when the parents were eating Fillet Mignon. WTF?

All kids love mac & cheese. My kids used to love m&c when I would throw in a package of Lil Smokies sausages or just slice up your families favorite sausage and add. Other than pizza or McDonalds this was the most requested.

Hello, we have found with my little brothers (ages 4 and 5) the more involved in making dinner they are the happier they are about eating it. We dont let them use knives and things - but they stir and open packets and add things to the pan or wok. In the past couple of weeks they have been making spaghetti sauce and noodles, all sorts of stir fries, vegetable spring rolls, home made mac and cheese, chicken with tomato and cream sauce just to name a few.

Their favoriate at the moment is

Tuna Noodle Cakes.
1 - can tuna
1- can corn
2- packets 2 minute noodles or similar
3-4 eggs
milk and flour - will depend on size of tuna can and amount of noodles

drain tuna and corn. cook noodles according to directions and drain. Mix with eggs, milk and flour. Season to taste. You are looking for something that looks like pancake batter. Add heaped spoons to hot fry pan and cook both sides til brown.

It mightnt sound too good but they love them.
