Roast Lamb for 8 people?!

Question:

Roast Lamb for 8 people?

hi, i want to cook roast lamb for 8 people this weekend. Do you know what size I would be looking for? i.e. what kilo (kg) lamb leg would serve 8 adults?

Answers:
I am unfortunately not tuned into the metric system, but thanks to the internet, I have figured out what you may need for 8 adults.

I usually figure about 6 ounces of meat per person, assuming you have a full meal, and not just meat. (Add a salad, soup, 2 veg, starch, etc.) Considering bones, water loss, etc. Push that up to 8 ounces of raw meat for a leg of lamb. This should provide enough that you won't run out. Slice it thin!

That comes out to about 4lbs or 1.8kg.

As a side note, I was taught that an average adult will consume about 24 ounces of food total per meal. That comes out to about 0.7Kg per meal. That may help you figure out the total meal.

Good Luck!

5-7 pounds (11-15 kg)

ROAST LEG OF LAMB A LA GRECQUE

1 leg of lamb, 5 to 7 lbs.
Several lemons, quartered (for fresh lemon juice)
3 to 5 cloves garlic, each sliced into several pieces
2 to 3 tbsp. oregano
1 tbsp. basil, optional
1 tbsp. rosemary, optional
Salt and pepper to taste, optional

Reserve a leg of lamb from your favorite butcher so that it can be fresh when you pick it up, a day or so in advance of preparation and serving.
Pat the leg of lamb with a cold, moist towel, to clean.

Prepare the meat on all sides by cutting small slits and inserting the garlic pieces.

Slowly pour the lemon juice (squeezed from the lemon quarters) over all surfaces (and especially into the garlic-filled slits).

Liberally apply the oregano, basil, rosemary, salt and pepper to all surfaces.

Place the meat on a rack in an open roasting pan, fat side up.

Preheat oven to 425 degrees F.

Roast prepared meat for 5 minutes to sear, and then IMMEDIATELY lower the heat to 325 degrees F.

Roast approximately 30 minutes per pound for medium-doneness. If slightly pinker meat is desired, turn off oven for the final 30 minutes of roasting, but leave meat in oven.

Serves 8-10.

Any chance of cooking for 9

Hi there, roast lamb..... wonderful, you will need approximately a 2 kg Lamb Roast if the butcher only has a 2.2 kg take it, cold roast lamb sandwiches are great, for rare allow 15 mins per pound or 30 mins per kg, add 10 mins extra per kg for meduim.

I like to puncture holes in the lamb and then push a sliver of garlic into each one then put a sprig of rosemary in each hole. Really good !!!!
