Vegetarian/Vegan medical (s)care stories?
Last week, my mother's doctor suggested a "synthetic" form of Glucosamine for her knee arthritis because the "natural" form is made from shellfish which she is allergic to. When I spoke with the pharmacist, I was told that the "synthetic form was safe to take" only to discover that it is derived from cattle and shark cartilage!
I'm sure her story is not the only one out there!

Yes, I was on glucosamine for my shoulder and I found out it was made from shellfish. I stopped taking it instantly and spoke to my physical therapist and my massage therapist. Both suggested that glucosamine does very little if anything to a person my age and that I would be better off eating more joint healthy foods such as soy, apples, carrots, and oatmeal. My shoulder still hurts but no more than it did while I was on glucosamine.
.... Well, I found out that Soylent Green is made from people....
