Was my herring radioactive?!

Question:

Was my herring radioactive?

I bought herring at a grocery store on Sunday. After dark I wanted to eat it, but as I walked with it through a dark room it dispensed a blue light. Was I right to throw it away, our could I have eaten it safely?

Answers:
That was a type of mould that produces two chemicals, and when they react, it glows. The same two chemicals are found in the average glow stick. I don't think its poisonous, but i sure wouldn't eat it. :) Its interesting though.
