How do you get the food smells out of plastic containers?!

Question:

How do you get the food smells out of plastic containers?

After I have stored food in the freezer (i.e. curry / chilli etc) I find that when I wash the containers, the smell of the food is still left behind.

I have soaked them in boiling soapy water, even with a bit of bleach in it, but they still smell!

HELP!

Answers:
Squezze lemon juice in them it will cut the smell than rinse in hot water!!

more bleach

Try soaking them in lemon juice with hot soapy water. Worked for me.

try bicarbonate of soda in hot water and leave for a few hours then rinse. the smell or stains should be gone.

You put bleach in food containers??

Throw them away!

Try using lemon juice or bicarb when your new containers smell.

hi rub them in some fresh lemon juice and let them dry and then wash them out

Use hot water with baking soda, and let it sit over night.

soak in water with some baking soda and then scrub them out with some

When I had this problem, I soaked the plastic containers in pure bleach since just part bleach didn't seem to help.
It truly worked and I still use the containers to this day.

I hate throwing those things away as they cost a pretty penny, more so if it is Tupperware.

I find that filling them with a solution of bicarb and warm water works. You may have to leave it for 24 hours.

Ba careful using bleach as this in itself can taint food later kept in the container.

A dish of bicarb kept in the fridge will also get rid of smell including raw onion.

try white vinegar...

warm baking soda solution for a day or two

Try bicarbonated soda or vinigar

BICARB AND/OR LEMONJUICE, AND THEN A GOOD RINSE USUALLY WORKS OK,

Get the semi-disposable kind.

Use a small amount of pure bleach at the bottom, swirl carefully to prevent splashing (and bleaching your clothes) and let it sit for a while. The evaporating bleach ought to break down everything causing the smell.

Leave them overnight in cold water with three litres of that cheap bleach you get from the supermstket and as somoone already said. a couple of whole lemons sliced in half..

you need to wash them with bicarbonate of soda, this removes the smell.

Someone I know used water with some baking soda in it, and let the dishes soak.

clean the container with baking soda

I use a product called "Dawn-Odor Eraser" It has citrus ingredients. It has worked well for me. Look for it in the dish-liquid aisle at Walmart.

well then throw it away and buy new ones
