whats the best food in america today?!

That IS a hard question to answer but every answer depends.
A lot of people in america does like fattening foods like pizza and all that but
most companies and brands try to find a way to reduce fat and calories and all that.
some people like healthy, yet delicious foods that they will crave after their first try and some people might find it gross...
This is a HARD question to answer, there are so many good things. But I can tell you what my favorite restaurants are and my favorite dishes.
1) Irene's in New Orleans, the Pompano Meunière Amandine. A pompano fish topped with crab and almonds with sides to melt in your mouth like whipped sweet potatoes. The dish has butter, but not so much that you would notice in your take-home bag the next day-cold.
2) La Traviata, Long Beach, CA. Sea bass garnished with caviar. The ambiance is wonderful in this restaurant and features opera and or piano while you dine.
Irene and Mario, the owners will greet you at the door.
Food is not always about the food itself, but the experience. These places have both.
Since I mentioned fish, for good beef The Outback can't be beat for price. Ruth Chris' chain or St. Elmo's in Indianapolis are specialty steakhouses and good.
And then there is always Thanksgiving at my house, and just bout EVERY house :) Fine food with a lot of love and family & friends. Turkey: one roasted, one smoked, my dressing to die for, gravy, fruit salad, cranberries, yams cooked fresh and glazed, green bean casserole, pumpkin and pecan pie. So...I'd say that Thanksgiving's menu is always a favorite in the United States.

Every restaurant can be recognized by their own great recipe.
I must say that as far as food that is strictly american, Barbecue seems to be a big competitive thing these days. Obviously, a vegan won't give you the same answer.
American food is such a mixture of all ethnic cuisines.
We have definitely slaughtered mexican and chinese food.
It is very hard to find those foods, prepared accurately in any part of our great country.
I live in Kansas, heart of barbecue country, but I've only been out for bbq 4 times in 15 years!
I would love to find a fantastic lamb vindaloo, or shwarma here in Kansas, and I just can't find it here.
