How do i become a certified sommelier in AZ?!

Question:

How do i become a certified sommelier in AZ?

I have been a bartender for five years and know quite a bit about liquor and wine but would like to take steps to becoming certified

Answers:
Howdy,

The best resource I could track down is an organization called the International Sommelier Guild. They offer something called a "sommelier diploma program." It may be what you're looking for.

According to the site, "The program is an intensive six-month course held once a week for eight clock hours. The International Sommelier Guild is the only professional body that accredits Sommeliers by direct instruction."

The ISG has different campuses all over the world. The nearest to you is probably at the Art Institute of Phoenix (link included below).

All of this sounds official to me, but I would suggest talking with a few sommeliers on your own. Ask them what their opinions are of certification programs as well as the overall state of the job market.

Best of luck and happy sniffing.

Mike

There is a wine sommelier organization in the US. You can take classes toward 3 level certification. or just take the three tests which are offered in specific places only a couple times a year. You have to know varietal and year by just smelling! good luck
