Why is Modena the cuisine Capital of Italy?!

Question: Why is Modena the cuisine Capital of Italy?
Answers:

I think you would get quite a lot of debate here in Italy over this statement. Most regions consider their own local foods to be "best." To me it's kind of a meaningless debate, there's a lot of excellent food no matter where you go. As it happens, I live about 30 minutes from Modena and have had some great meals there. I've also had really wonderful meals elsewhere in Emilia Romagna as well as in the Veneto, Lombardia, Liguria, Toscana, Umbria and the various other regions I have visited. Modena is known for traditional aceto balsamico, is in the region where parmigiano reggiano cheese is made and there's a thriving pork industry.

Who says it is? I live in Italy and have NEVER heard this.
