Why do I feel so bloated after eating Indian food?!

Question: Why do I feel so bloated after eating Indian food?
It seems a common occurrence after eating at Indian restaurants is a painful, bloated full feeling after the meal. This seems to be a different kind of "full" than most other types of food, and seems to happen even when I eat far less than I would with other foods.

Avoid eating the following:
1.Butter Chicken/Chicken Tikka Masala
2.Biriyani/Pulow
3.Naan/Paratha

Next time restrict yourself with the following and see if you feel better

Iddli (it's a steamed rice cake)
Sambar (it's a lentil soup)
Sada Dosa (thin pan cake)
Butter Milk

am from India

I would say that it depends on what you are eating.. obviously a large quantity of rice would make you feel stuffed. But also the type of food, eg Gujrati, Rajasthani, Punjabi, South Indian etc. Some communities tend to put soda bicarb in their veg, chickpeas, etc. and that will definitely cause bloating, espescially when one has not become habituated to it.

Dhals too might are gassy in their own right even if no bicarb was added to soften it while cooking.

More than likely the cause of your distress is coming from an assumption on my part that you were not raised on Indian food, and therefore your digestive system gets thrown for a loop when you introduce something that exotic into it. Happens to me with certain foods, because they are not a normal part of my diet.

I'm Indian, so I've never had this issue with my regular food, but it happens to me when I eat Chinese, Mexican, Italian... lots of stuff. I find a lot of food bland but really heavy and my stomach often hurts afterwards. I guess you're just not used to it, that's all. Maybe stay away from the spicy stuff, if that's what you're having trouble with. :]

Indian food is contains dairy, high fat and high carbs. Also, taste good too so it's easy to overeat.
I guess you could be just full from the dairy fat and carbs.

It depends on what you are eating, but dal (lentils) have a lot more fiber and cause gas in people who aren't used to them. Other than that it could be chili.

I think its
because they
have a lot of
sodium in their
food!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Probably from all the thick sauces and heavy noodles.
