Husband added to much liquid to sauce? How do I fix it?!

Question:

Husband added to much liquid to sauce? How do I fix it?

I have pork chop, cream of mushroom soup, onion, and a few spices in a crock pot. I asked my husband this morning to add a little milk for the mushroom soup to liquify. (Just a little) The first time I checked the crock pot, I noticed there was to much liquid.

About twenty checks later, the liquid is still WAY to much. Should I leave it be and have it liquid-ey or what can I do to thicken the sauce? (I don't really want to just dump some liquid out. I don't want to lose the flavors. Also The pork chop and sauce will be put over rice or noodles for dinner later)

Or should I just make my husband DRINK his dinner? :P

Answers:
you can either let it simmer some more

or

take 1 tsp of corn starch and add it to 1-2 tbsp of water( mix until starch is dissolved), then add this mixture to your liquid to thicken it, flour can clump up if not mixed well, but if that's all you have try to get as many clumps out.

Source(s):
flour and butter= roux

water and cornstarch= slurry

culinary major

Take the lid off. That should let a lot of the steam (water) leave.

Add a little flour, take the lid off and turn the heat up.

Just let it simmer a bit longer so it reduces to the right consistency. You can add juts a wee bit of starch but careful with that! Keep stirring!

this has happened to me too.. unfortunately you cant fix that unless you have anymore cream of mushroom. but then you could take a piece of bread and use it as a strain and the bread would keep all the flavor then put the bread in the crock pot

Make a slurry...

2 tbsp flour into a cup.
Add water to cover.
Whisk
Add to sauce.

Continue until thickened

Take some flour(small amount couple of spoons) and some butter, saute this until just light to medium tan not burnt, stir this into sauce, (this is a roux) and cook for a little while longer. This should thicken the sauce without making it taste like raw flour..if you just add flour it tastes like flour ...of course if you want, make him order you dinner since he messed it up to begin with...

Mix some Cornstarch w/ cold water and add, it will thicken the sauce. Maybe 1 tsp to 1/2 cup water
I wouldn't add flour, it might leave lumps but Cornstarch will not.

You could stir in some milk mixed with cornstarch, just a little bit and it will thicken ~~Or~~ you could add some potatoes to it and they will help in the thickening process too.

Your first mistake was asking a man to do it. LOL! You can try thickening it with a roux (flour and butter mixture) like other folks suggested or add some fresh mushrooms and sliced onions to the mix. As they cook, they will absorb some of the liquid and you will have extra veggies to go over your pasta.

In a measuring cup mix water and all purpose flour after that blend it with sauce.

Add a thickening agent like cornstarch. You can make a roux out of flower and butter by cooking them down together in a pot and then adding it.

the best way to tighten up a sauce quickly is to use what's called a slurry.......a slurry is a mixture of corn starch and cold water.....add it a little bit at a time....and make sure your sauce is at a boil.....thats when you will see the full thickening power......if you add flour....you have to continue to cook the sauce for about 20 minutes to get the flour taste out....hope this helps!!
