What are the type of baked beans that aren't sweet?!

Question:

What are the type of baked beans that aren't sweet?

I had them once at this western place in Arizona...they looked similar to baked beans, but in a thinner sauce, and they weren't sweet at all. They were really good.

But I don't like regular baked beans...they're too sweet. I don't like sugar and beans. Does anyone know what those beans that I had were called? Or how to prepare them if you can't buy them canned? Thanks!

Answers:
Those were probably pintos. You can get them dried or canned.

add a table spoon of white vinager

kidney beans or black beans?

It may have been barbecued beans with a spicy rather than sweet sauce. I too hate the sweeter ones.

I thought all baked beans have brown suger in them . I would try creating my own recipe

those are tomato-based baked beans. really popular in the uk/ireland/parts of europe. if you have a world market near you, or any upscale food store that has imported food, they'll have them. they usually have the heinz ones-with a turquoise label.

to make them, just take a baked bean recipe and decrease the sugar, plus increase vinegar. should work fine if you season to taste.
