Why is it so hard to find real Mexican food?!

Question: Why is it so hard to find real Mexican food?
Seems every time I come back from Mexico and after eating all those superb meals, all I can find in the US is faux Mexican food. Where's all the good stuff???

Answers:

Sorry, only in México.

Not sure what you mean by "real" Mexican food.

Many of the Mexican restaurants are family owned and run by Mexicans, unless you're referring to chain restaurants. We all know that chain restaurants do NOT serve real mexican food.

As to food served by family run restaurants, maybe they just don't know how to cook to your liking?

Also, Mexico is a large country with different "states". Food is different from region to region.

Maybe the immigrants are from a particular area and what you considered to be "real" Mexican food is from another area.

It's not just Mexican food which is not quite authentic. In fact it is any ethnic food that is not in the country of origin. Noticed that Indian food in most countries outside of Asia is a poor substitute. Chinese food in France is nowhere close to proper Chinese food, and I'm sure that other ethnic foods will have similar issues of change to accommodate local tastes.

I haven't had much real mexican food in the USA because the main ingredients are very expensive here by comparison. Avocados, good fish, tomatoes, Etc.

Go to the hole in the wall where the migrant workers eat for the best food.

Or try frontera grill in Chicago I'll see you there next week baby yeah!!!!

Tiny, hole in the wall places that are open all night.
I don't know where you live, but near me there are a couple places, Taco Taco, Mr. Taco, Los Burritos Tapitos, El Burrito Loco....
The smaller, the older looking, the better.

You just have to go where the Hispanic people are. My hometown has a very high Hispanic population due to agricultural work, and we have 4 amazing, authentic taco wagons. They are all over the place if you know where to look.

its hard because people dont want time to cook the meals they just throw it in the microwave and bam 2-3 min. later a hot burrito. They sell all that fake stuff becuase people want it becaise its faster to cook

New Mexico. Unfortunately they tone down Mexican food for the American pallet. The closest you will get to authentic is along the border.

Go to Australia and in the Elizabeth shopping centre there is a place called 'BURP' this has all mexican food! And trust me it is good!

Hope you becum mexican!

Aint that the same with all the garbage we eat in US
