Falafel is believed to originate from Egypt. After it spreaded north to the Levant.
Now it is very popular in Middle East.

Wikipedia.

Falafel existed before the borders in the middle east did.

My inlaws have a Syrian birth certificate but they were actually born in Lebanon. It was part of Syria when they were born. To even attempt to give credit to any area would be flawed. Since it seems to be a major dish in Lebanon, Syria, Israel, Palestine, Jordan and some North African states, and my guess is somewhere in that general area.

some people say india, but i think the best are in lebanon, some people say israel, but then as old as they are i have to say the ottoman empire which was all these countries combined. but i am sure they existed even before the ottoman empire so let's get a historian involved.
