What is your opinion on Filipino food?!

Question: What is your opinion on Filipino food?
Is it more oriental or Polynesian? Seems like they are really into BBQ and fried stuff. I have not come across any Filipino restaurants that would be considered fine-dining and I live in an area with a large Filipino population... why is this?

Answers:

Based upon my Filipino coworkers, many Filipinos feel they can cook better food at home so why bother going out to eat Filipino food.

Also, it has to do with acceptance... Filipino food is not as common so people are apprehensive with trying unfamiliar foods.

I see Filipino food as a mix of fried foods, stir-fry and stews... with an Asian influence and some Spanish influence, but Asian is the biggest influence.

Another Filipino coworker mentioned that owning a restaurant is too hard and many Filipinos don't want to work that hard.... I couldn't tell if he was serious or joking.

Seems like a cross between Asian and Mexican to me.

Most of the better known Fillipino foods are family fare. Like Lumpia, Adobo and BBQ as you pointed out.
I have also never seen a high end Fillipino restaurant. Not sure why
