i bought some oolong tea and i am drinking it now. its been steeping for about 7 minutes and it is a very light greyish color. it has almost no taste. is it steeped enough or is my tea no good?

Answers:

Ni Hao Evelynn,

Oolong tea should look greenish blackish.
It should taste more like green tea than black tea.
It should be bitter with a sweet after taste. Sweet after bitter is much better than bitter after sweet in my opinion.
Oolong is group into the same category as 青茶 meaning "blue-green tea"

7 minutes is way too long to steep oolong tea, or ANY tea for that matter. You should only steep oolongs 3-4 minutes and the colors would vary depending on the type of oolong. Ti Kwan Yin gives a pale golden, while Golden Dragon and Phoenix Mountain varieties are more to the amber or wheat-colored tea.

It sounds like you're not using nearly enough tea to water. The proper ratio is about 6 grams of tea leaves for every 12 ounces of water. If your tea is light grey and tasteless you're probably using too little tea, and/or not using the proper water temp, or both.
