If i freeze a loaf of bread for a week then take it out a defrost it?!

Question:

If i freeze a loaf of bread for a week then take it out a defrost it?

Will it be fresh and last as if i had just bought it. Or would i have to keep it frozen and just take the slices that i wanted?
I know this sounds like a daft question, but ive always wondered!!!

Answers:
I've been keeping my bread products frozen for years.

I buy enough for the week (and with three grandsons who love toast for breakfast and sandwiches for lunch we go through a LOT of bread!) and freeze the lot of them. Then take out a loaf as necessary and put it in the fridge. When it thaws, it is just as fresh as it would have been eaten fresh.

Also, I myself don't each much bread, but I dearly love my pumperknickel rye bread once in awhile (toasted, gobs of butter). So I will buy myself a small loaf of this and freeze it in a freezer bag (because I am keeping mine for much longer in the freezer than the grandson's bread), and take off a slice or two whenever I get the craving for it. I just pop it straight into the toaster frozen, and it comes out just as if I had toasted fresh.

So, yes, you can freeze bread. Yes, when it is thawed it is just as good as fresh. And yes, you can take off just the slices you need to use and keep the rest frozen. But I would suggest investing in heavy duty freezer bags to prevent freezer burn, if you are going to be keeping it in the freezer for more than a week.

you can do either its upto you! :)

yes

HI

Yes i do it all the time. Its fine when defrosted and lasts a couple of days.

No, the freezing process kills some of the good stuff in bread. You can still eat it, but it won't be as good.

We defrost the whole loaf, but then my husband gets through so much of it that it doesn't last long anyway.

It'll be fine.

Take it out as you need it and toast it or microwave just the pieces you're going to use. In my experience, it never comes out quite the same when it defrosts.

either way is fine, but the bread will not be as soft as when you bought it.

My mom freezes bread before she's ready to use, then keeps it in the refrigerator. She does this mainly because we don't go through bread very quickly and refrigerated, it lasts longer than it does sitting out on the counter.

It's best if you only use it for toast.

You can do either but it would make sense to keep it frozen and use it as you need it if you don't use it up quickly otherwise you will end up wasting it

Better to take slices out when required.

I freeze my bread, because I don't live near any shops. I defrost half a loaf at a time. Frozen bread makes lovely toast

It should be just as fresh as when you bought it, mine always is.

It will be a little crumbly...maybe crumbly is a bad word but I can't think of a better one...it won't be as fresh, no...not as soft...

i mean i be like when u first bought it but itll still taste good.
i dont do it
but my mom does
i would just buy more when needed

it will be fresh, but will on;y last a few days... mind you with 2 ever hungry kids if a loaf lasts 2 days we're happy..

its gets defrosted and doesnt get chance to go stale

it feels as fresh for the first day, but goes downhill rapid and doesnt stay as fresh as if un frozen. i'd just take out what you need xx

Depending on how much bread you use at once. If a loaf of bread lasts you more than 3 days. I would just take out a few slices and defrost them as required otherwise you will find that the loaf will begin to dry out and lose it's freshness. Either way, it does not hurt to freeze bread. The fresher the loaf into the freezer the better the flavor. We buy and occasionally bake our own bread and freeze numerous loaves at one time. Saves time and money.
Further: We find that if a slice gets begins to harden or does get hard. Place it in the microwave for a few second and you will find that it gets just as soft as if it just came out of the oven

you can freeze it and when you need it defrost it and use normally

I do both - it depends on how much you use really! It still tastes as nice as long as you keep it covered so it doesnt get 'freezer burn'!

I've done it before but the bread always seems to end up soggy and smelling a bit

it will not be as soft and fresh if you want to use the whole loaf take out slices.

I freeze bread all the time. It will be fresh. We thaw a loaf at a time because we go through a lot of bread. If it lasts you a while, I would only thaw what you're going to use.

take out whole loaf and let thaw. then you have good bread for about 2 days but after that it gets old fast

The answer is yes, it will be as fresh as when you bought it, assuming you froze it straight away. If you want it to last longer just take out the slices you need. Make sure you reseal the wrapping though or the bread will dehydrate.
