well it could mean hurry up and eat all your food and enjoy it. if you arespeaking about positive twang or slang.
However,to eat-up or eat is to take into the body by the mouth for digestion or absorption at normalcy rate. Meaning normally or for necessity.
The second meaning of eat up, eat-up or eat is to consume, ravage, or destroy by or as if by ingesting, such as by a disease.

To eat up is to erode or corrode or to something that eats the surface of a part. Whether bodily or machine. That will vary depending on the item in question and what you are speaking about.
Now if you are speaking eat up "slang" or friendly suggestion

To receive or enjoy enthusiastically or avidly: She really eats up the media. Although not specifically rich like most celebrities who seem to say they have more than they really do
Or “eat up”. Enjoy the food basically with some other thought in mind by the compliment However, silently said, they really don’t have something positive in mind but an ulterior motive most likely in the negative arena, Just downright evil. . When ever someone say to eat up Watch out people. Something bad is in store, if not then definitely in the near future. In other word watch out you may be poisoned!!! So don’t trust someone that says eat up….

If you are saying eat up in a evil way like to an enemy then you are basically telling someone to eat your heart out. Meaning you must feel nothing but bitter anguish or grief, defeat and bad luck...

This is really an idiom. Eat up is not in an original English dictionary. Since t is slang. but maybe in a dictionary handling slang etc..

Here is a short true story: I remember when I worked into a restaurant, I was just a teen then, and poor folk were not paid great wages. (Think the minimum wage was 1.50. So they hated celebrities and people who dressed and looked well off. I was just going to college so needed a job and sought job at a local seafood outfit since it was close to the university and walking distance. Those poor hard working employees with the famous “word eat up” took revenge and to got back at all customers who came to the restaurant often and didn’t pay well or made complaints on workers to get free replacement foods.
(Yep there are customers that did that! which sucked really in my opinion). However. Soon all Caucasians, Asians, Indians, Arabs, Jews etc sat in the same category as those, like celebrities or better off status, who thought they were better that you and those who were not polite statute t the worker. Well anyway restaurant workers mostly the Afro centric folks would urinate into the Caesar salad dressing and pour it onto the food before serving it to the customers while they said eat up. (Good thing found this out first day at work and had not bought dinner yet) anyway, I was so upset about the issue because I thought the worker was just unruly and just hate rich folk. So complained to the boss then quit my job, that after noon because the boss did not do anything and when I went to knock the plate of the table to keep the customer from eating it. My employer told me my last day at work was that Friday so I would have work two days!!! Wow .. In other words, he was going to fire me next day; afternoon.. However, I quit the same afternoon, anyway to make a long story short, a crew showed up at my apartment /form and kicked my butt for making a complaint and not allowing the man and his family to eat the food mind you how wife was native colored woman so I don’t think it had anything to do with race. I never got anything in return (not even a thank you from the family) but I did get a butt whipping and a sense of safety/security for other people for all walks of life that went to the restaurant I guess and a word tat stayed with me forever “eatup”
The word eat up did stick with me because those were the words spoken before the man tried to a bit of the Caesar salad which my greedy boss did not remove the dinner table because he wanted a few dollars and the fact hat he was racist which he admitted himself and one reason why I quit. I learned cooking your own food was the way t go and a lesson learned. Call me paranoid if you wish but better safe that sorry. So that is one good example of eat up excitingly said.
So the next time you hear the words "eat up". Listen to whom it coming from and listen to the way it is said and make your own judgment. Don't do because someone says to especially if it is coming from someone you do not know. Follow your heart and gust instinct. Know the difference especially if you are involve in a fraternity or may be prank proned. ha ha ha Ja ja !!Joke people. Just telling you to be careful folk and be careful what you eat up!!!

Hope this answers your question, Have a super-tastic day!!!

self !!!!!!!!! Now wiser. sometime you just can't teach your uncle how to suck eggs.:)

no real difference "eat up" is usually used in informal situations, like when telling your kids to hurry up and eat/stop talking and eat.

I don't think there is a plural for eat or eat up, depends on what your telling them to eat. If you say "eat your salad" salad is singular. If you say "eat your chicken nuggets" chicken nuggets is plural, but "eat" is still the same.

My understanding of the difference is while "eat up" means "eat all(there is)" and just "eat" means "eat something at all".
