What food should be served at an American party?!

Question: What food should be served at an American party?
I'm hosting an American-themed birthday party for my friend who is originally from the States and have decided to serve American food. Unfortunately, I can't find any original ideas on Google and need help. Hot dogs and hamburgers are on my list but I'm looking for foods that are not commonly served in the United Kingdom. Any ideas? Thanks!

Americans...just so you know...get plenty of "American" food...we really do appreciate food from all over (we are from all over).

but to confirm what someone else said...fried chicken is good stuff...mac 'n' cheese (homemade is best). you could do pulled pork on hamburger buns...sooo good. Get a 3-4lb pork loin, add about 16oz.s of coca-cola and a bottle of spicy BBQ sauce- let it all simmer in a crock pot for I think, about 5-6 hours (1hour low, the rest high) (I am sure there are recipes online for it too)...have another bottle handy for the sandwiches, coleslaw on top and ...oh man, so good.

Depends where in the states he's from as well...North, the South, West, East coast- makes a difference as to what they might appreciate. The South love their chicken and home cooked stuff, the Northeast like their seafood- shrimp, crabs, lobsters, steak; the Southwest, are influenced by South American dishes so they like they're tacos, burrito's (easy to do for a party), nachos (build your own, nice for a party) set out chips, (Frito's corn chips work good) cheese, chili, sour cream, tomatoes, jalapenos, olives, onion, etc. ... )...I am so hungry right now...can I come over ??, the Northwest- they eat whatever...no real influences to harbor off of...what state is he/she from...and see if there are any dishes particular to that state/region.

Apple pie would be great. not sure what fruits and vege's you guys have...but ya, love me some Apple pie warmed with vanilla ice-cream...that screams "Home" to me.

I'm typing this to you and the local church bells just finished playing "the Star Spangled Banner"...so I think it was a subliminal message...

(Many thought chili is a Mexican dish. Other than the Mexican name, this dish is 100% American.)

well if u are doing hot dogs & hamburgers then u should also do corn on the cob, baked beans, potato salad, pasta salad, and maybe ribs or grilled chicken.

pizza & fried chicken are also VERY american.

u can make chicken parmesan, i know its italian, but its a very popular dish in america.
Ingredients
1 egg, beaten
2 ounces dry bread crumbs
2 skinless, boneless chicken breast halves
3/4 (16 ounce) jar spaghetti sauce
2 ounces shredded mozzarella cheese
1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
Directions
1.Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Lightly grease a medium baking sheet.
2.Pour egg into a small shallow bowl. Place bread crumbs in a separate shallow bowl. Dip chicken into egg, then into the bread crumbs. Place coated chicken on the prepared baking sheet and bake in the preheated oven for 40 minutes, or until no longer pink and juices run clear.
3.Pour 1/2 of the spaghetti sauce into a 7x11 inch baking dish. Place chicken over sauce, and cover with remaining sauce. Sprinkle mozzarella and Parmesan cheeses on top and return to the preheated oven for 20 minutes.

and then i suggest making chocolate chip cookies or a new york style cheese cake for dessert. plus id have fruit salad and maybe smores or a type of pie. ice cream sundae bars are always lots of fun too.

and for appetizers i would have chicken wings, mozzarella sticks, chips & dip, coconut shrimp, and devilled eggs

Polish Sausage & Peppers

Cooks to perfection in an 18 quart roaster!

12 lbs. Polish Sausage cut in 3" pieces
20 large green peppers, seeded and sliced
8 lbs. onion, sliced
2-3 cans beer (sub. 7-Up or apple juice if desired with maybe a tablespoon of balsamic vinegar)

Put all above into a roaster. Stir occasionally. Cook at 250 - 300 degrees for most of the day (4-5 hours). Serve the sausage and peppers and onions on French bread.

Always well liked.

Serves 50

If I were to serve hot dog and hamburger,
I would first get cole slaw, potato salad, potato chips, soda / beer, and birthday cake/ cup cakes first.

And then probably add following ;

deviled eggs
baked macaroni and cheeze

Bangers and mash, fish and chips, mushy peas, shepherd's pie, toad in a hole, and serve it all with beer.

Fried chicken, baked macaroni and cheese, cole slaw, corn on the cob, potato salad, deviled eggs, corn bread...

American baked cheesecake
American pancakes with flambéed cherries and warm chocolate sauce
muffins
Chocolate brownies
Carrot cake
Cupcakes
Corn pudding
Waffles
Apple pie
