Trouble with Dried Mochi?!

Question: Trouble with Dried Mochi?
I purchased some dried mochi that is really thin and oval. It's about 1x3 and maybe 1/8 inch thick. I have tried soaking it and it did soften but stayed thin and pretty inedible. I also tried my oven, I don't have a toaster oven, and it started to bubble a little but wouldn't soften to an edible stage. What can I do? How do I cook this so it's edible? I made some Anuki (sweet red bean paste) so I could try various dishes but the mochi isn't cooperating at all. Please help me!

Answers:

If your dried mochi looked like this: http://www.maangchi.com/wp-content/uploa… then you've purchased Chinese/Kkorean style rice cake instead.

You should turn sliced rice cake into something like these:

Shanghai style stir-fried rice cake:

Korean style rice cake soup:

PS: You don't want to deep fry thin slices of rice cake. :)

When mochi has gotten too dry, we (japanese) fry it deep in a pan. It tastes good something like rice crackers. the link below is where you can get the recipe.
