What is the favorite food in Japan?!

Question: What is the favorite food in Japan?
What is the most favorite food among the japanese people?

Answers:

The Japanese eat mostly from the sea. However, the answer to your question varies from region to region. We lived in Japan for a few years, on the northernmost part of Honshu island, in Aomori prefecture, Misawa city. The regional favorite there was a dish called Yakisoba. We've been back in the US for several years now and after searching high and low, we have yet to find something comparable. Basically Yakisoba is a noodle dish that has cabbage, carrots and a protein but what makes it stand out is the sauce. The Japanese use a Yakisoba sauce that could almost be compared to our Worcestershire sauce, but is not nearly as tangy, it's quite mild. We left Japan in 2003 and Yakisoba remains our favorite meal.

A lot will depend on the region as each area has it own specialties and favourites. Throughout Japan sushi would be the most popular food and is not eaten everyday as many people think. Sushi is usually eaten on special occasions or for a time of celebration. Other popular festival foods include takayaki, yakisoba, and yakitori.
