I have not yet been to the place myself, however I do like their beer and was interested in finding out more about it. From everything I have read, and I saw a lot of reviews, the food is considered amazing with high quality service and a plentiful selection of beers. Most people also were happy to exclaim about the samples that they liberally dose out to patrons. Try one of their well reviewed seasonal beers other than the standard off the shelf ale. Given the nature of their menu and typical German food from other places, my picks off the menu would be:
Bratwurst - Pork garlic onions and beer. A flavorfully spiced sausage. $ 8 .95
Fondue Sausage Sampler - We bring together our sausage sampler of bratwurst double-smoked kielbasa and weisswurst then add our delicious fondue. The result is addicting. Sprinkled with green onions and served with sliced rustic baguette. $ 8 .95
Pretzel - A soft pretzel warm from the oven served with a robust German-style deli mustard. Salted or unsalted. $ 1 .95
Pork Schnitzel - Two tender pieces of pork loin dusted with bread crumbs then grilled golden brown and topped with lemon wine sauce. It's hard to beat a good schnitzel. $ 13 .95
Food:
The German-American theme continues here, with beer-hall classics like Sauerbraten, Schnitzel, and roast chicken, served with a slightly Northwest-ish twist, like freshly sauteed vegetables on the side. One favorite for snackers is the Weizenbier Cheese, a spreadable mix of three different kinds of cheeses, onions, spices, and Widmer Weizen, served up with good bread. in the fashion of many Franconian beer halls. Also, the Gasthaus has no deep-fat-fried foods; everything is sauteed, blanched, boiled, or baked, or, in the case of salads and snacks, served cool or at room temperature.

Like all good German beer-hall food, Widmer's is tasty, stick-to-your-ribs, and for many, synonymous with "comfort food" (especially the garlic mashed potatoes!). Food is in the moderate price range, perhaps a touch higher for the specials, making the Gasthaus a bit less of a cheap eats kind of place than, say, having a slice of pizza at the Bridgeport, or a skewered-chicken "bento" at the Lucky Labrador. It is, however, a fine place to tuck into a Teutonic- inspired meal, with a pint or Mass of one's favorite Widmer beer alongside.

Personal recommendations:
I had the pork chop with spaetzel, which is a German pasta-like dumpling. It was quite good. To drink, I had asked our waiter, Mike, for the hoppiest thing they had. He brought their Double IPA, Hopnosis. After dinner I had their Cherry Bomb strong ale.

My fiancee had their BBQ pulled pork sandwich. The BBQ sauce was OK. It needs more smoky flavor. The pork was fine, though. She really liked the German potato salad.

The sausage plate is too damn tasty... I get craving for the food when I?m away. A big brick building with a very comfortable dining area and bar, sports on the tele in the bar, and some interesting dishes along with the usual brewery fare.

Although the intent of going to Widmer was to have a few brews and food was but a second thought, the next time I go to Widmer it will be for the food first. Widmer has gone to great lengths to make their Gasthaus as German as possible, and though this isn't reflected in its decor, it certainly is in its food. Along with some more traditional options like steaks, seafood, and pasta, the menu also has some schnitzel, sauerbraten, and several sausage choices, all at very reasonable prices. I also loved the appetizer menu and opted for the Pretzel with Fondue dip for $ 2 .50, though folks I was with raved about the Bourbon Bock wings and the artichoke brie dip. Yum!
