Where to get this Japanese snack...?!

Question:

Where to get this Japanese snack...?

My Japanese teacher introduced a snack she called Niboshi, which is dried baby sardines, I think. I asked her where she got it and she said in Japan. Does anyone know of anywhere I can buy it online or in Spokane, Washington? Thanks...

Answers:
There seems to be a Chinese grocery store in Spokane called "Bay Market". You could give that place a try.

Bay Market
1801 E Sprague Ave
(509) 534-5601

Since Bay Market is a Chinese grocery, they wil not know the Japanese name "niboshi". In Chinese niboshi is called 小塍酤乾, or just 小酤乾. Print this out and show it to the store.

I love Niboshi myself and used to buy it all the time in the Uwajimaya in Seattle. Knowing that is too long of a drive for you, maybe ask a friend to buy some for you? You can also store them for a long time so stock up if you do ever go to Seattle.

Wish you the best of luck!

Ewwww why would you want that??? Grab a box of fish sticks!

you can get it a japanese food website just search japanese foods on google

I am not familiar in Sponkane, Washington, however look into your phone book and find any asian supermarket and I am sure they have Niboshi. or you can also find korean market or any asian market in your area...I know if you go to greater Seattle area you will definately find them since there are lot of asian population living in Seattle. good luck

Sorry I did a quick search for you and didn't have any luck. Try regular sardines.

I am a former chef from Canada and travelled to and worked in Japan, they can be found in Japanese or Filipino grocery store, but this may sound weird they also sell them in pet food stores, they are usually sold for cats, And I know you are saying "What???". they sell them for snacks, but they are the real thing, no chemicals or other things added, just dried sardines.

If you feel funny about eating something intended for a pet, there no different than the ones you find in the 2 ethnic shops I spoke of, except they are also given to cats.

I have made miso soup with them and would not steer you wrong, it is just the idea I guess.

I have seen little dried fish for sale at the Japanese store at Epcot in DisneyWorld. I would have to guess you should google it or try an asian market.

Japanese/Asian food stores.
