Grease is not the problem. That gear made out of cheap plastic is the causes to your problem. It obviously wasn't built to handle the stress. How did you found out that gear was made out of plastic anyway? I hope you didn't open up the slicer because that might void the warranty. You will not be able to return or exchange the faulty machine with a voided warranty.
Good luck
Food slicers need an edible machine oil. You can purchase this type of oil at any restaurant supply store. NEVER use olive oil, vegetable oil or cooking spray to oil a slicer. These types of oil will gum up the moving parts.
As far as the wear goes, I've never seen a slicer that has plastic parts. I would have to look at the slicer to tell you because I can't tell what the problem is from reading your question. Maybe the blade is rubbing against the plastic parts? Maybe the slicer needs to be adjusted? Not sure.

James W is on the Mark. Cheap plastic is the reason it is wearing down quickly. Spending a little extra and getting a good quality machine is worth it.
