A Tijuana whistleberry

Refried is a mistranslation of "refrito." As someone else pointed out "re" means well or very. Frijoles refritos are well fried or very fried beans, ie. cooked a long time. These days the beans called "frefritos" are usually boiled and then mashed into a puré. It's very rare that they are actually fried although I have seen and eaten such beans.

I live and eat in Mexico. Oh, I cook here too.

They've just been cooked twice. Pinto beans are cooked until soft and mashed up and then cooked again until it has the consistency of a bean burrito.

its a pinto bean re in spanish means well not twice so refried beans are well fried not fried twice

Beans that are fried, They are only fried once.
