Why do biscuits get soggy when dipped in hot tea but not in milk or water?


Answers:
The heat of the tea and water breaks down the dryness of the biscuits.....but you did not say that the milk and water was hot or not but it gets soggy just the same.

The tea is more hot than milk or water so it causes it to get soggy

The warmth breaks down the biscuit faster. It will eventually get soggy in water and milk though.

beacause the heat in the tea breaks down the bonds that are holding the biscuit together faster that the cold in the milk or water. but if you where to leave the biscuit in the cold milk or water for a longer period of time in will also become very soggy. good question

because it is hot, when something is hot its particles move faster causing the object to expand and in the case of the aforementioned biccie (im hoping digestive) get sogggy (limp biscuit aha) when in colder fluids the state is altered slowly as the liquids dissolve some of the compounds in the buscuit, so technically the heat is like a catalyst.

Try heating your milk or water and you will find that the biscuits DO go soggy.

It is to do with the heat entering the biscuit and changing its structure.

bourbon creams, i used 2 use them in hot tea and cold milk when i was younger! in the tea the biscuit got soggy quick and the filling softened, in the milk it takes a little bit longer 2 go soggy, but ur left with the filling in tact 2 eat at the end! both ways taste equally as good. A shortbread biscuit would b 1 2 experiment with, the hot tea can find it hard work to soften this 1 as i already know, never try'd it with milk or water.

Sugar desolves faster in a warm liquid.
