What is the name of this food I tried, which only grows in the high mountains and looks like couscous?!

Question: What is the name of this food I tried, which only grows in the high mountains and looks like couscous?
I was on a trip and ate some kind of grain (or at least I think it was) and when it was cooked it looked similar to couscous, except it had little white things in it. I heard the name, it was exotic and I'm pretty sure it had a q in it. I remember the cook told me it would only grow in the high mountains of South America. Maybe it wasn't South America and it was somewhere else, but I think that's what he said. Any ideas?

I agree with the poster who said Quinoa (Keen-Wah)- if the white things kind of curled out from the seed when cooked. The grain originated in the Andes, has a complete amino acid profile, and nowadays is available in almost every large chain grocery store in the US.

Coursework on Inca culture.
Have a box of Quinoa in my cupboard ;)
