Question:

Is the heavy cream rotten?

it doesn't expire until next month according to the label, but the cream inside curded or something. there was something solid at the bottom and it looked like cream cheese or butter..

is it safe to eat?

Additional Details

my refrigerator's fine.

and whether it was rotten or not, better safe than sorry, right?

but i don't think it was rotten..

it really looked like, and had the consistency of butter. i tasted a little and it tasted like raw butter too..

but the recipe didn't call for butter. it called for heavy cream. so i went back to the store and exchanged it.

Nope. Sorry buddy.

That is why it is heavy cream, shake up the container very well.

nope i would not eat it

God no! Throw it away! And check the temperature on your fridge.

I wouldn't eat it. It could've been exposed to warm temperature. It shouldn't have curded, icky!!

No, if you just brought it home from the grocery store return it, otherwise I agree with the other girl check your refrigerator temperature, it should be between 1 and four degrees Celsius, just throw a thermometer in it for half an hour, you can even use one that you use to check the temperature outside. if it is much higher then four throw out all your mayonnaise based sauces and dressings, your meat, & all your dairy products
(including eggs even if they are pasturized just to be certain). Then call a repair man.

I have eaten rotten chicken...and went fine..don't see why not eating (Heavy cream not yet expired)...don't ya think so?

Sometimes the fat seperates a bit from the cream. You might even see some yellow flecks in the 'clumps'. That's butter.

Shake it up before using & it'll be just fine. Just not too much or you'll have butter.

Cream is one of those things that you will KNOW when it starts to turn. And it also has a long shelf life. Just keep it in the back of the fridge so it'll stay cold.

Don't listen to those folks above saying to throw it out. They've probably never even had heavy cream in their fridges.
