Do those glass oil dispensers with the stainless steel tips leak?!

Question:

Do those glass oil dispensers with the stainless steel tips leak?

I'm talking about the ones usually used for olive oil, but I'd like one for canola oil. When I just use the oil from the bottle, the bottle gets so greasy... any ideas? Thanks~

They work pretty good...and definately MUCH better than from either a bottle or worse yet one of the big heavy tins. The only thing to keep eye out for is that the metal tops are rounded instead of having a spout shape, and sometimes a few drops can stay there and drip down the side. If you keep doing that, it can get a bit yucky, but easy to take care of as you use.

Experience has taught me there are 2 simple ways to prevent that. The easist to to sort of give it a twist when you are ending pouring the oil, so it spins inward (same move as some make when they are pouring wine, so you don't lose a drop). And if you find that doesn't come handy, just give a fast wipe of the tip with a paper towel. One tip...if you can find one with a stopper (usually a lil black plastic tip/covering), go for it so air stays out and it will stay fresher/cleaner. And a small funnel makes easy work of filling the oil.

I think you'll be a lot happier with the oil dispenser. And I was in a crafty mood, so I'll describe what I did in case you like the idea. I saw some really pretty oil bottles that had various designs but where close to 20 bucks versus hmmm think the plain glass one was about $2.95, cheaper at an outlet sale. And I wanted 2 (one for extra virgin olive oil one for regular), but was having a hard time justifying 40 bucks but I wanted them! So I got the bottles at a cooking outlet, and then stopped by Michael's..the craft shop. And since then I've seen similar things at various stores. I bought a pack of clear stickers/decals in a pretty floral. I ran them around the base of the bottle, and I liked that pattern even more than the pricey one, as I could choose flowers I liked and that matched my kitchen! Not sure if I needed to, but I had some Modge Pog in the house and used a light coat to finish it and so I could wash and have a layer so hopefully the flowers wouldn't wear off. It doesn't look bad, but it was a flat finish and if I do it again I would use glossy. But since I had it, it still did the job and looks very pretty. It was one of those crafts that took a couple minutes and very little actual skill lolol. Ended up being not only very economical compared to others on the market, but a pretty work of art! And depending on taste & how crafty you are, you can decorate in all sorts of ways. I saw some super pricey ones done up with beads, twisted wire and rhinestones. I wanted one more simple and easy to keep clean, but thought how easy it would be to play around and make all sorts of stuff. May make a set as a gift for a friend. So thought I'd pass along my idea in case you like the idea too!

Put it in a sanitized wine bottle that is pretty of course: ) Then buy one of those easy pourers for liquor, they have a plastic cork and a stainless spout. You can buy them at most large chain Supermarkets in the kitchen supply section usually.

They shouldn't leak. I have several. None of mine do. They have a rubber cork between the glass and the steel tip to prevent leaking. They are actually pretty nice.

Cheap ones do.
Make sure the stopper fits snug before you buy.

I bought one for my dish soap, went with a cheaper one and after using it for a few days the stopper fell out. I ended up with enough soap in the dish pan to do ALL my dishes.

All that came to mind was thank goodness it wasn't oil!
That's one thing I won't go cheap on again.

As for the gunk build up on the bottle. I store mine (a good one ; ) away from the stove & wipe it down after each use with paper towels & a touch of vinegar if it's got oil drips .
Definitly wash between fillings. Before I wash it I spray the outside down with 409 only if it needs it.
