Why is cheese yellow?!

Question:

Why is cheese yellow?

i know its been asked ...so what

Answers:
It's colored that way because many years ago the cows that were used in cheese production all grazed on different things throughout the years dependingon the seasons, etc...so the milk would change colors depending on what they ate.

They would tint the cheese for consistancy...they did the same thing for butter.

Now, even though the grain fed cows have a more consistant diet, we still eat the orange/ yellow cheese lol because we are so use to it, it's the standard.

I still prefer my cheese the white color.

When my boyfriend first came here from Australia- he had never seen orange chedder, he took a picture and sent it home.

i think its bc of the bacteria in it im not sure though

Most cheeses are naturally white or pale cream in color. The bright orange and yellow cheeses such as cheddar, American, etc. commonly found in the supermarket are dyed with a natural coloring called annatto.

did you check the expiration date?

It is colored yellow with dye. Cheese is accually white but consumers believe yellow cheese to be more appealing so they dye it.

We have been trained and taught since childhood to expect the cheese to be yellow. And it is, mostly.
We are trained consumerists,we are inundated with 'refresher' courses every day that we tune in or turn on a Cable Ready TV.
Or it could have something to do with chlorophyll and plants and stuff, but I do not really think there are enough cows to feed the world.
