Why is my popcorn always styro-foamy?!

Question:

Why is my popcorn always styro-foamy?

No matter what brand of popcorn I buy, it has the texture of styrofoam, not that nice crisp popcorn you get at the movies. I use an air popper, is that the problem? Do I need a different kind of popper? What do you suggest?

I do buy microwave popcorn on occasion, but I'm not crazy about all the chemicals in the stuff, so I prefer homemade.

The air popper is the problem. Every kind of popcorn tastes like styrofoam when you pop it in an air popper. For me, the following has always worked best: use a large pot, pour cooking oil so that it barely covers the bottom of the pot, and heat the oil until it's the right temperature. Test this by putting a kernel of popcorn into the cooking oil and waiting until it pops. Then pour popcorn kernels into the bottom of the pot until there's only a thin layer of popcorn, covered with cooking oil. Cover and wait for the popcorn to start popping. Season according to taste. Always works for me.

I find the same thing happens to me with air-popped corn. It isn't as crunchy and flavorful as oil popped.

Coz air popped injects a lot of air into the corn and makes it puffy and styrofoamy. With oil popped pop corn the corn absorbs some of the oil giving it a nice crispy bite

um... idk why your popcorn is styrofoamy!!???
I love movie popcorn too! but I use microwave popcorn, and it turns out fine! Try that out and if it's not good, then something's wrong with your texture-tasting-tongue!! lol
good luck!

microwaved popcorn is better so iwould reccomend buying a microwave if u dont already have 1.

Try microwave popcorn if u haven't already.
I find it good but not like "movie " popcorn.
