add some refried beans it will not alter the taste and take up the heat, a tablespoon of honey will mellow the heat without leaving it sweet, serve with some sour cream if it's still to hot. The other thing is to bulk up the chili with an additional 1/4 batch, freeze what you have left. Chili freezes well.

Coconut milk may tone down the heat, however you will not have chili any more!
Sugar will intensify the heat. Have you ever drunk something sweet after eating something fiery? If you have you will have experienced your mouth being on fire.

I have never tried lemon juice to ton down heat. My guess is that even if it did, you would have to use a significant amount of it, and ruin your chili.

In my opinion your best and in fact only option is to roughly chop several fresh tomatoes (fresh preferably not canned) and add it to your chili. I say fresh because those will absorb some of the heat since they are uncooked, and will balance your dish. Along with the tomato you can add a teaspoon of sugar to balance the additional tomato.

If its still too spicy you can serve small quantities with a lot of sour cream.

experience with chili that's come out overly spicy.

This site is all about chili and has several good ideas

I have never heard of lemon juice cooling it down so I am unsure how that would work. It would definitely change the flavor.

Sometimes once a recipe melds and sits for a day or two it is not as spicy.

Good luck

All the ideas are good, but it adds a different flavors that change the taste. The neutral thing to tone down the spiciness is try adding sugar. That will tone down the spice.

White vinegar tones down spiciness.

lemon juice works...but be careful..you can make it too citrus. plain yogurt cools a spicy dish too

Add so more water or broth to it, and let it simmer a while longer.
If it gets too thin add flour

you are right, also any milk or cream will tone it down

lemon or potatos

Lemon juice.

Try adding some sour cream to it.

stir in some sour cream
