What is Jiao Gu Lan really? And what does it tastes?!

Question:

What is Jiao Gu Lan really? And what does it tastes?

I searched for the info on the net and found that some categorized it as tea, while others see it as a herb. And as for the taste, some said its bland and/or a little bitter, while others said it as got a sweet taste. So I'm a little bit confused. Anyone had it before?

Answers:
Jiao gu lan is classed as a herbal tea in Hong Kong where it is drunk in large quantities by the local populace. Many claims are made as to its health giving properties including weight loss, anti-aging, cure for jaundice and bronchitis and loads of other things. It contains amino acids, vitamins and minerals. I cannot say
whether these claims are correct or not as I have never been able to finish a cup owing to its vile taste. When I used to work in H/K
Europeans appeared to shun the drink but the locals loved it.
Try it, I dare you.
