Certainly 100's of thousands. If you consider the number of cities in the U.S., the regular chain Italian restaurants, and the mom and pop shops, then you know there are many. Cities like NYC or Chicago or even Las Vegas would contain a heavier concentration than many other cities.
When it comes to restaurants in the U.S., it is a question easier to answer when you specify a city, state, or region. "Melting pot" is more than just a concept but a reality here.
