Do the Mexican people really eat bugs?!

Question: Do the Mexican people really eat bugs?
I've heard that Mexican peoples have dishes that have a certain bug in it.

Is it true, and if so how does it taste?

Is it good?

How do you make it?

Answers:

In Oaxaca, I was at a party, and we were munching on these little seed-like things, crunchy, salty. I said, these are good, what are they? They were crickets. I looked under the lamp then, and they really were. I really liked them, I kept eating them. I sure would like to have them again, really.

There are other parts of the world, people eat insects. It's not such a big deal.

What you heard is true. While traveling around in Mexico and learning some of it's history I found that back in the times of less when chickens were not yet used as a food source in Mexico, the people would gather and fry grasshoppers for protein. In the markets there, they still are available in any quantity you like.

When Cortes came to Mexico in the early 1500's, it is said that is when chicken was introduced to the Mexican people. Unfortunately, poor people could not afford them and continued to eat grasshoppers because they were so abundant and free. The same is true today. They are not considered a delicacy but rather a staple, high in protein.

a lot of other countries commonly eat insects. I myself have never tried them, but many people like them, and i have heard that some taste like sugar, blood, and some lemon-lime.

it depends on the person
